“Many lust after prophecy because they don’t have a love relationship with The Word.”
So are we that desperate to hear from God that we won’t open our bibles and hearts daily to receive His word but we will “go in” off of a “God said...(insert anything about money, material, haters, nations, success & promotion).”
I’m not against anything God is for. I believe in & practice prophecy. However, I just believe that there’s gotta be context for more of these prophecies. God will not license anybody to do just anything. There must be prophetic a accountability for both the one who prophecies & the one who hears. The prerequisite for both is an open heart with an open Bible.
God will not speak a word through a person that can not be comfirmed by The Bible. It may not be a direct quote or reference but biblical principles & The Nature Of God, His character, will & way will only be confirmed.
Lastly, it will be confirmed, either a witness in your spirit, the written word, by another hearer, or fulfillment. In Deuteronomy 18:20-22, there is a stern warning for those who say God said something that He never did:
But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. You may say to yourselves, How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord? If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him [or his lies, so put him to death]."
Jesus warned us saying:
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. . . . Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" (Matthew 7:15, 21-23)
There is peace in considering that if there is a false, there must be a true! God has true prophets and true moments of prophetic utterances that are from Him & worthy of trust. It was Jesus who gave some gifts to ordinary people so that they could serve as apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, so that all of these should work together to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph 4:11-13)
My prayer is that the true not be tainted by the false & that God would demonstrate such power with accuracy & transformation that it would weaken the influence of the false. Until then, we used to sing a call & answer song that simply said “stay in the Word, don’t go nowhere!” I admonish every believer to find a dwelling place in God’s Word so there will be no unhealthy thirst for anything else. Stay there until the sound of sound doctrine can be easily heard & rightly interpreted. Stay there until you begin to sound like Him, love like Him, & think like Him.
